PSG’s lead in Ligue 1 was thwarted as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Brest, with the visitors securing a valuable point.
Paris Saint-Germain’s unbeaten home record in Ligue 1 since September came to an end as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Stade Brestois 29. The league leaders, despite taking a 2-0 lead into halftime courtesy of goals from Marco Asensio and Randel Kolo Muani, failed to assert their dominance on the match.
Brest, currently sitting in third place, enjoyed a significant share of possession and created numerous chances throughout the game. Their impressive form continued as they extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches, keeping their hopes alive for a historic Champions League qualification.
PSG’s lackluster performance was epitomized by defender Danilo Pereira, who inadvertently helped Mahdi Camara’s tame strike find the back of the net, giving Brest a lifeline. Substitute Mathias Pereira Lage then sealed the comeback with a skillful back-heeled finish, equalizing the scoreline with just 10 minutes remaining.
Despite the disappointment, PSG still maintain a six-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table. However, Brest’s resilient display allowed them to close the gap between themselves and second-placed Nice to just three points.
One of the few bright spots for PSG was the performance of young winger Bradley Barcola, who was their most threatening attacking outlet. However, even he was unable to break through the resolute defense of the visitors, leaving Kylian Mbappe, the leading goal scorer in Ligue 1, frustrated as he failed to find the back of the net for the first time in six matches across all competitions.
To compound PSG’s frustrations, Barcola was shown a red card for two reckless challenges in the dying moments of the game. This disappointing result will undoubtedly leave PSG with much to ponder as they look to maintain their position at the top of the league.
