Phil Foden from Manchester City has been awarded the PFA Player of the Year, while Cole Palmer from Chelsea has been named Young Player of the Year.

Phil Foden, the talented midfielder from Manchester City, has been crowned the PFA Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season. The 24-year-old beat out his teammate Erling Haaland to claim the prestigious award. Other notable players on the shortlist included Martin Odegaard from Arsenal, Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, Rodri from Manchester City, and Cole Palmer, who was named the PFA Young Player of the Year after an impressive season with Chelsea.

Foden’s remarkable campaign saw him score a total of 27 goals across all competitions, with 19 of those coming in the Premier League. His contributions played a crucial role in Manchester City’s successful bid for their fourth consecutive Premier League title, as well as their triumph in the FIFA Club World Cup. The team also reached the final of the FA Cup, but unfortunately fell short against their rivals Manchester United.

In response to winning the award, Foden expressed his gratitude and pride, stating, “To win this award is something very special and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for. To be recognized this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.” He also acknowledged the support of his coach Pep Guardiola, the City coaching staff, and his teammates, emphasizing their role in his development as a player.

Foden’s teammate Kyle Walker, Rodri, and Erling Haaland were also recognized for their outstanding performances by being voted into the PFA Team of the Year. Foden congratulated them on their achievements, highlighting their exceptional quality.

Another standout player from the season was Cole Palmer, who was named the PFA Young Player of the Year. The 22-year-old had a breakthrough season with Chelsea, scoring an impressive 27 goals, including 22 in the Premier League, and providing 15 assists. Palmer’s contributions were crucial in securing a sixth-place finish for Chelsea and a spot in European competition.

Both Foden and Palmer represented England in the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, with Palmer even scoring in the final. Despite their efforts, the England team was ultimately defeated 2-1 by Spain.

In the women’s category, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw from Manchester City was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year. Shaw scored 21 goals for her team, helping them secure a second-place finish in the Women’s Super League. Grace Clinton, who was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Manchester United, was named the women’s Young Player of the Year after an impressive season in midfield.

Overall, it was a season filled with exceptional performances and deserving winners. Foden, Palmer, Shaw, and Clinton have all showcased their immense talent and contributed significantly to their respective teams’ success.
