Paris Saint-Germain clinched their 12th Ligue 1 title as Monaco suffered a defeat against Lyon.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique expressed his delight following their Ligue 1 Uber Eats match against Le Havre AC (HAC) at Parc des Princes stadium on April 27, 2024 in Paris, France.
The victory against Le Havre, combined with second-placed Monaco’s 3-2 defeat against Lyon on Sunday, secured PSG’s third consecutive French title. With a 12-point lead over Monaco and only four games left to play, PSG had already sealed the destination of L’Hexagoal.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised the players, coaching staff, and everyone involved with the club for their achievements this season. PSG have only suffered one league defeat, a 3-2 loss to Nice in September, and have remained undefeated away from home. They have also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Borussia Dortmund.
This latest league triumph marks PSG’s 12th title, surpassing Saint-Etienne’s record of 10. Since Qatar Sports Investments took over the club in 2011, PSG have dominated French football, winning 10 of their titles during this period.
Al-Khelaifi emphasized the significance of winning the league for the 12th time, highlighting the team’s unity and the unwavering support of the fans. He expressed gratitude to everyone connected to Paris Saint-Germain and vowed to continue working hard until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Clermont secured a crucial 4-1 victory over Reims, giving themselves a lifeline in their battle against relegation. Despite being seven points adrift of safety, Clermont’s win, coupled with defeats for Metz and Lorient, has given them a glimmer of hope. However, with only three rounds of fixtures remaining, time is running out for them to secure their place in the top flight.
