Oli McBurnie’s late goal secures a point for the Blades, who are currently facing difficulties.
In a thrilling Premier League clash at Bramall Lane, Oli McBurnie emerged as the hero for Sheffield United, scoring a last-gasp equalizer to secure a 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.
Chelsea welcomed back Thiago Silva to their starting lineup after a lengthy absence, and the Brazilian defender wasted no time in making an impact. Silva expertly volleyed Conor Gallagher’s delivery into the bottom-right corner to give the visitors an early lead.
However, Sheffield United quickly responded through Jayden Bogle. The full-back latched onto a sublime through ball from Gustavo Hamer and unleashed a powerful strike from a tight angle. Unfortunately for Chelsea, goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic could only divert the ball into his own net, leveling the score.
After the break, the momentum swung back in Chelsea’s favor, and it was Noni Madueke who restored their lead. The winger cut inside the box onto his left foot and unleashed a fierce shot that left Sheffield United goalkeeper Ivo Grbic with no chance.
But just when it seemed like Chelsea would secure all three points, McBurnie stepped up for Sheffield United. In the dying moments of the game, the striker found himself in the right place at the right time to convert a close-range finish, salvaging a valuable point for his team.
For Chelsea, the draw will be seen as a missed opportunity. They remain in ninth place, five points adrift of the top six, following Manchester United’s draw with Liverpool earlier in the day.
On the other hand, Sheffield United will be buoyed by the result as they continue their unlikely battle for survival. They now find themselves nine points away from safety with seven games remaining. The point earned against Chelsea will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they look to defy the odds and secure their Premier League status for another season.
