Nottingham Forest is challenging the four-point deduction for breaching the Profit and Sustainability Regulations after falling into the relegation zone.

Nottingham Forest, the English football club, has lodged an appeal against the four-point penalty they received for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR). This deduction saw Forest drop into the relegation zone, falling behind Luton Town. The club expressed their extreme disappointment with the decision and have now decided to challenge it.

In a statement, Forest confirmed that they have appealed against the four-point sanction imposed by the commission for their breach of the PSR. However, they have chosen not to make any further comments at this time.

The penalty was given to Forest after an independent commission ruled that they exceeded the £61 million yearly loss threshold by £34.5 million. As a result, Forest’s points dropped from 25 to 21, causing them to slip to 18th place in the Premier League.

This season, Forest became the second team to receive a points deduction related to PSR in the Premier League, with Everton being the first. Everton initially received a 10-point sanction in November, but it was later reduced to six points in February after their appeal. If Forest’s appeal process takes a similar length of time, it is possible that the season could conclude before any verdict is announced.

Last week, Forest expressed their dismay with the Premier League’s submissions before the commission. They stated that they were “dismayed by the tone and content” and felt that it harmed the trust and confidence they had in the Premier League. Forest believed that the Premier League’s initial request for an eight-point deduction was disproportionate compared to the nine points prescribed for insolvency under their own rules. They also felt that the high levels of cooperation shown by the club during the process were not reciprocated by the Premier League.

Forest’s next league match is scheduled for March 30 against Crystal Palace at the City Ground.
