Milos Kerkez transfers to Liverpool from Bournemouth, making him the third significant summer acquisition following Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.
Goals, assists and crunching tackles – The best of new Liverpool star Kerkez
Liverpool have officially secured the signing of defender Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, marking a significant addition to their squad.
Kerkez, who has made a name for himself over the past two seasons at Bournemouth, arrives at Anfield after contributing two goals and eight assists in 74 appearances. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, as he was recently shortlisted for the 2024-25 Men’s PFA Young Player of the Year award.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Kerkez stated, “It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, the biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited.” He added, “After this, I’ll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.”
The arrival of Kerkez raises intriguing questions regarding the future of Andy Robertson, who is entering the final year of his contract with Liverpool. The club has already seen one long-term full-back depart this summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold making the switch to Real Madrid.
Under the management of Arne Slot, Liverpool clinched their 20th league title in his first season at the helm. The club is eager to maintain their lead over rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester City. Additionally, Slot will be aiming for a deeper run in the UEFA Champions League after last season’s exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16.
As Liverpool prepares for the 2025/26 campaign, securing new contracts for key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will be crucial to their ambitions.
Kerkez expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, “I just want to thank everyone for really showing me big love, even before it will be announced now. And keep supporting the team like you support always, because you’re the biggest fan base in the world.”
Meanwhile, Bournemouth will face a significant challenge in retaining their defensive assets, particularly after finishing ninth in the Premier League last season, an improvement on their previous 12th place. The coming weeks and months will be critical for the Cherries as they look to hold onto their key players.
