Milan was denied victory by visitors who scored an equalizer from a penalty in their Serie A match.
Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta Bergamo celebrated in style after netting his team’s first goal in a thrilling Serie A TIM match against AC Milan at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. However, Rafael Leao stole the show with a stunning strike, resulting in a 1-1 draw between the top-four contenders at San Siro. Unfortunately for Milan, this result pushed them even further behind league leaders Inter Milan.
Leao wasted no time in making an impact, finding the back of the net within the first three minutes. With exceptional skill, he maneuvered past two defenders and unleashed a magnificent curled shot that left Marco Carnesecchi helpless in the Atalanta goal.
The remainder of the first half lacked much excitement until Atalanta had a penalty claim just before the break. Olivier Giroud’s high boot caught the attention of the referee, who, after consulting VAR, controversially awarded a penalty. Teun Koopmeiners, in fine form, confidently converted the spot kick, securing his 10th goal of the season.
Milan struggled to find their rhythm in the second half but gradually regained control of the game. They had numerous opportunities to snatch a late winner but failed to capitalize. Ruben Loftus-Cheek squandered a chance from close range, while Christian Pulisic also missed the mark with a poke from a tight angle. In the dying minutes, Davide Zappacosta came to Atalanta’s rescue, heading Olivier Giroud’s effort off the goal line.
With this draw, Milan now find themselves trailing Inter by a staggering 13 points in the Serie A standings. However, they still hold on to third place, maintaining a seven-point lead over Atalanta, who sit in fifth place.
