A VAR check later awarded Milan a penalty after Maleh’s handball was spotted. Giroud confidently stepped up to take the spotkick, firing it in off the underside of the bar to double his team’s lead.

Empoli had a few decent opportunities to score in the second half, with Matteo Cancellieri’s shot being parried and Francesco Caputo’s follow-up effort being blocked. However, Milan remained resolute in defense.
In the dying minutes of the game, substitute Chaka Traore sealed the victory for AC Milan. Christian Pulisic set up Traore, who calmly side-footed the ball past the keeper.
