Mikel Arteta expressed his intense frustration over Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card during Arsenal’s remarkable victory, stating, “I am extremely angry.”
**Arteta’s Fury Over Lewis-Skelly’s Red Card as Arsenal Edge Past Wolves**
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was left “absolutely fuming” following a controversial red card shown to defender Myles Lewis-Skelly during his side’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The young defender received a straight red from referee Michael Oliver after a challenge on Matt Doherty, despite the incident occurring well outside the Wolves’ penalty area and Lewis-Skelly not appearing to be the last man.
Despite the setback of playing with ten men, Arsenal managed to secure a 1-0 victory, thanks to a second-half strike from Riccardo Calafiori. The Gunners were aided by a red card shown to Joao Gomes just minutes before Calafiori’s goal, which shifted the momentum back in Arsenal’s favour.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Arteta commended his players for their resilience in what he described as “difficult circumstances.” He stated, “It’s incredible what the boys did again. In the context that we were thrown in again, it was about character, personality of the team, courage and intelligence to play the game we wanted to play. It was exceptional.”
However, the focus quickly shifted back to the contentious decision regarding Lewis-Skelly. Arteta did not hold back in expressing his frustration, suggesting that the error was so glaring that the club might not even need to lodge an appeal to have the decision overturned.
“It is that clear that I leave it to you guys,” he said, visibly upset. “I am absolutely fuming but I leave it with you. Because it is that obvious. I don’t think my words are going to help.”
When pressed about the possibility of an appeal, Arteta remained firm, indicating that the club would assess the situation. “That’s for the club to decide what the best decision is. I think it’s that obvious, maybe we don’t even need to,” he concluded.
As Arsenal look to build on this hard-fought victory, the manager’s search for a new striker continues. Arteta acknowledged, “We lack goals, we lack people, we lack options.” The Gunners will need to address these issues swiftly as they aim to maintain their momentum in the league.
