Marco Silva extends Fulham contract for three years
Marco Silva has put pen to paper on a fresh three-year deal at Fulham, extending his tenure as head coach until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
This announcement comes on the back of the Cottagers’ 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League on Monday.
It has been a mixed start to the new campaign for Fulham, who have suffered four losses in their opening nine matches, leaving them in 13th place in the table.
The 46-year-old Portuguese manager is currently in his second year at the helm of the London club, having taken over from Scott Parker in July 2021.
“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract as it’s something we have been discussing for some time,” said the former Everton, Watford, and Hull City boss.
“It’s always a positive sign when both parties are content and eager to continue working together. I believe there is unfinished business here. We have had two excellent seasons, and the objective is clear: to establish this club in the Premier League.
“This is crucial for the future of Fulham, and we are putting in the hard work to achieve it.”
After being relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2020/21 season, Silva guided Fulham straight back to the top-flight, winning the title with an impressive tally of 106 goals and 27 victories.
Last season, Fulham made a solid start in the Premier League but faltered in March, losing five consecutive matches, which ultimately hindered their bid for European qualification.
Silva added: “It is vital to feel the trust and have the support of our owners. My relationship with them, and with Fulham Football Club as a whole, has been pivotal in making this decision and achieving success over the past two seasons.
“The commitment and ambition shown by the players from day one have been instrumental in our accomplishments, and that will continue to be the case, along with the unwavering support of our fans, who are fundamental. Let’s continue this journey together.”
During his tenure, Silva has secured victory in 48 percent of the league matches he has overseen, both in the Premier League and the Championship.
Fulham chairman Shahid Khan expressed his delight, stating: “This is a fantastic day for Fulham Football Club. Specifically, it’s a tremendous moment for our supporters, who deserve our utmost dedication to investing in the present and future of their club, both on and off the pitch.
“I am pleased to announce that Marco Silva has signed a new contract until 2025/26, and I am confident that this news will inspire our players and fans, both in the immediate future and in the seasons to come.
“When I first met Marco in 2021, I knew he embodied everything we needed and more in our next head coach.
“I am grateful that Marco shared my belief in what is achievable here at Fulham, and now, several years later, we are reaffirming our commitment to achieving something special for our fans.
“Marco and I are aligned – there is work ahead, but also much to anticipate.”
Fulham’s next fixture is an away clash against Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday, October 29.
