Marco Reus, full of determination, is not concerned with Real Madrid being considered the favorites.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus is ready for the UEFA Champions League final and is unfazed by Real Madrid’s status as favorites. Speaking to TNT Sports, Reus stated, “Sure, Real is the favorite. But I don’t care, because the role of favorite doesn’t decide who wins the game.”
Reus, who will be bidding farewell to Dortmund after 12 seasons, is focused on ending his time at the club in the best possible way.
Reus believes that the outcome of the final will depend on various factors, including willpower and fitness. He expressed confidence in Dortmund’s fitness levels and their strong desire to win the final. Reus also highlighted the opportunity for Dortmund to make history, as Real Madrid has been in the final multiple times in recent years without losing.
Reflecting on Dortmund’s previous Champions League final appearance in 2013, Reus described it as the starting point of his journey. He expressed excitement about being in the final again, especially in his last game for the club and against Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium. Reus emphasized the importance of finishing the final on a high note.
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic will rely on experienced players like Mats Hummels and Reus to lead the young squad. Reus hopes that his younger teammates will create their own special memories in the final. He encouraged them to embrace the opportunity and give their all to make history for the club.
Reus acknowledged that the Champions League final is a different experience emotionally and emphasized the need to enjoy the game. He highlighted the importance of focus and teamwork while also finding moments to celebrate together. Reus believes that drawing strength from these moments can be crucial.
Dortmund’s strong defense, led by Hummels and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, kept clean sheets against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals. Reus acknowledged that Madrid’s talent and freedom in Carlo Ancelotti’s system could pose a challenge. He emphasized the importance of implementing Dortmund’s own plan while also being prepared for Madrid’s counter-attacks.
Reus has had success against Madrid in the past, scoring four goals in seven games against them. He is not worried about Madrid’s Champions League aura and plans to play instinctively in the final.
Despite the final being held in London, Reus expects Dortmund fans to show up in large numbers. He has already received many ticket requests and hopes for a black and yellow party night in the city.
