Manchester United are up against tough competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to sign Dani Olmo.
Man Utd face competition for RB Leipzig star Olmo
Manchester United are monitoring RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, but they may face competition from their neighbours Manchester City, as well as Chelsea, Tottenham, and Real Madrid. According to a report in the Mail, the Spain international could be available for £52 million.
The report states that both Manchester United and Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Olmo this summer. The 25-year-old Spain international has been performing exceptionally well at RB Leipzig and has a clause in his contract that becomes active this summer, allowing him to leave for £52 million.
Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham are also interested in Olmo’s progress, particularly due to his versatility in playing on either flank or off the striker. Real Madrid, on the other hand, are expected to sign Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian Kendrick in the upcoming transfer window. They may also make a bid for Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. However, president Florentino Perez remains open to adding Spain’s best players to his squad if it is financially viable.
Manchester United is looking to strengthen their squad this summer, with a focus on a centre forward, centre-back, full-back, and central midfielder. The club’s transfer plans will also depend on the departures from the team.
Alonso ‘likely’ to remain Bayer Leverkusen manager
Xabi Alonso is now likely to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, leaving Liverpool and Bayern Munich disappointed in their search for a new manager. Despite both clubs showing interest in Alonso, the Spaniard has reportedly decided to stay at Leverkusen, who are currently leading the Bundesliga and remain unbeaten after 26 games.
Liverpool had considered Alonso as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp, but there were no indications that the former midfielder wanted to leave Leverkusen. Ruben Amorim, the Sporting Lisbon boss, is now the leading candidate for the Liverpool job, alongside Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. Bayern Munich had also expressed their desire to recruit Alonso, but their president, Uli Hoeness, stated that it would be “probably impossible” to bring him to Munich this year.
Joselu linked to ‘shock’ move to Man Utd
Spanish striker Joselu could be in line for a “shock transfer” to Manchester United, according to The Sun. The 34-year-old, who previously played for Stoke and Newcastle, is currently on loan at Real Madrid from Espanyol. Representatives from Manchester United have reportedly traveled to Spain to inquire about a potential summer deal. However, United faces competition from several other English clubs. Joselu’s future also depends on the viewpoint of their next sporting director, which could be Dan Ashworth. It is worth noting that Joselu’s priority is to remain at Real Madrid.
Boehly to be replaced as Chelsea chairman
Todd Boehly will be replaced as Chelsea’s chairman in 2027, according to the Mail. Boehly, an American who took over the position from Bruce Buck in June 2022, will be succeeded by a new chairman as part of an agreement between the club’s American co-owners. The intention is to pass the chairmanship between themselves every five years. Boehly’s group holds a minority stake, while Clearlake Capital, the majority stakeholders, have a 61.5% share in the club’s holding company. The decision on who will take over as chairman has not been made yet, but Boehly will be removed from the post. He will have the option to return in 2032 if he wishes to do so and retains his stake at Stamford Bridge.
