Manchester City has successfully secured the services of a young midfielder from River Plate named Claudio Echeverri. However, they have decided to loan him back to his current club until January 2025.
Manchester City have made a significant signing, bringing in midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. The 18-year-old will remain with the Argentine giants on loan until January 2025. City have reportedly paid an initial fee of £12.5 million for Echeverri, with an additional £7.5 million in potential add-ons.
Echeverri, who captained Argentina at the Under-17 World Cup, showcased his talent by scoring a hat-trick in the quarter-final victory over Brazil. Unfortunately, Argentina fell short in the tournament, losing to Germany in the semi-finals.
This signing follows in the footsteps of fellow Argentine Julian Alvarez, who joined City from River Plate in 2022. City has a strong connection with Argentine players, with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Pablo Zabaleta all making their mark at the club since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008.
Interestingly, River Plate’s manager is former Argentina defender Martin Demichelis, who also had a stint at City between 2013 and 2016.
Looking ahead, City’s next match is in the FA Cup fourth round against Tottenham on Saturday. They will then face Burnley in a midweek clash on January 31, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.
Overall, City’s acquisition of Echeverri demonstrates their commitment to nurturing young talent and their continued interest in Argentine players.
