Manchester City and Manchester United are competing for goalkeepers in anticipation of the departures of Ederson and Andre Onana.
Manchester United are reportedly on the lookout for two young goalkeepers as they consider replacing their struggling stopper, Andre Onana, at Old Trafford. According to The Sun, the club has set its sights on Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp and Lucas Chevalier from Lille. However, they face stiff competition from Manchester City, particularly if Ederson decides to leave the club. Onana himself has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
The Sun notes, “Royal Antwerp’s highly rated stopper Senne Lammens is on the radar of a host of Premier League clubs, with Newcastle and West Ham also keen.” Meanwhile, Lille’s impressive 23-year-old goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, has been under United’s watchful eye for several months. Both players are contracted until 2027, but sources suggest that Lille would be open to negotiations for around £40 million.
In other news, Manchester United may look to negotiate a higher fee than the previously agreed £40 million for forward Marcus Rashford, following a promising start to his loan spell at Aston Villa. The unsettled forward has made a strong impression in the early weeks at Villa Park, leading the Mirror to speculate that United could seek a better deal.
The Mirror reports, “When Rashford completed his loan switch at the end of the winter window, it was widely reported that Villa had an option – not an obligation – to buy him for £40 million.” While this was seen as a bargain for Rashford at his peak, it was a risk given his underwhelming performances over the past 18 months. United sources have indicated that Villa would be covering three-quarters of his £325,000-a-week salary, making him the highest-paid player in Unai Emery’s squad. With Rashford’s return to the England national team, there is speculation that United could push for a higher fee, although Villa’s strong negotiating position may complicate matters.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are facing a hefty fee if they wish to avoid signing Jadon Sancho permanently. The Daily Express reports that the Blues will need to pay a significant amount, estimated to be between £22 million and £25 million, to breach the agreement made when they sealed his loan on deadline day last summer.
The Express explains, “The Blues sealed the loan on deadline day last summer and, as part of the agreement, are obliged to make the deal permanent for between £22 million and £25 million, if they finish above 15th in the Premier League.” With Enzo Maresca’s side almost guaranteed to meet that criterion, Sancho’s future remains uncertain as he has not made a significant impact since leaving United. Chelsea could reportedly pay a substantial fee to the Red Devils to terminate the agreement and send him back to Old Trafford. Club officials believe that even if Chelsea withdraw from the deal, they can still generate funds by offloading the England international elsewhere.
In transfer news, Celtic may be preparing to make a move for Mathias Kvistgaarden, who is set to be sold by Danish side Brondby in the summer. The Scottish club had previously shown interest in the player in 2024 but opted to sign Adam Idah instead. However, they could be ready to make another attempt.
The Daily Record states, “He may only be 22 but it feels like Brondby striker Kvistgaarden has been on Celtic’s agenda for years. It first came about in January 2024, when Celtic instead opted to sign Adam Idah on an initial loan, Kvistgaarden was then just too valuable for Brondby to sell unless the offer was obscene.” Kvistgaarden has maintained his form, scoring 15 goals in 26 appearances this season, and it seems likely that a major club, whether Celtic or another, will make their move soon. It is expected that he will cost over £10 million when the time comes.
