Man United Suffer 0-3 Defeat to Newcastle in Carabao Cup
Joe Willock of Newcastle United celebrated in style after netting his side’s third goal in a thrilling Carabao Cup Fourth Round clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The pressure was on Erik ten Hag and his Red Devils once again as they suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat, crashing out of the competition.
Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and the hero of the night, Joe Willock, were the scorers for Newcastle, who showed no mercy to the defending champions. It feels like a distant memory now when United triumphed over the Magpies in last season’s final.
Newcastle dominated the first half, displaying superior organization and commitment compared to a lackluster United side. They took the lead in the 29th minute with a fantastic counter-attack orchestrated by Tino Livramento, finished off by Miguel Almiron. The advantage was then doubled on 36 minutes with Lewis Hall’s exquisite volley.
Although United mounted some pressure after the break, they struggled to create clear-cut chances. It seemed more likely that Newcastle would extend their lead rather than United staging a comeback. And indeed, Willock capitalized on a mistake by Amrabat, seizing possession and calmly slotting the ball into the net, effectively sealing the result with almost half an hour remaining.
The remainder of the match was uneventful, with Newcastle comfortably seeing out the game while United desperately tried to salvage something. The Magpies progress to the next round, leaving Ten Hag with bigger concerns than just their Carabao Cup exit.
