Luis Enrique justifies his choice to substitute Kylian Mbappe, the star striker of Paris Saint-Germain, at the half-time break.
Kylian Mbappe’s substitution at half-time during Paris Saint-Germain’s 0-0 draw against Monaco has sparked speculation and raised eyebrows. PSG coach, Luis Enrique, defended his decision, stating that it was made in the best interest of the team.
Mbappe, who had a relatively quiet first half against his former club, received treatment on his ankle after a challenge. However, it was not an injury that led to his substitution. Instead, Mbappe emerged from the tunnel in the second half, walked around the pitch, interacted with fans, and eventually took a seat next to his mother in the stands.
Enrique’s decision to replace the French superstar comes at a time when Mbappe has made it clear that he will not be extending his stay in Paris. The coach suggested that he wanted the team to start adjusting to playing without Mbappe, rather than relying on him indefinitely.
When questioned about his decision to substitute Mbappe, Enrique firmly stated that it was a coach’s decision and that he was focused on doing what was best for the team. He also brushed off further inquiries about never substituting Mbappe unless due to injury, emphasizing that he was handling the situation professionally.
Despite the draw not significantly impacting PSG’s position at the top of the Ligue 1 table, it has added pressure ahead of their second leg UEFA Champions League clash against Real Sociedad. PSG currently holds a 2-0 lead from the first leg and will need to maintain their focus to secure their spot in the next round.
