Luis Enrique assures that Kylian Mbappe, the French striker, will be in a suitable condition for the Champions League last 16 and dismisses any speculation regarding his departure.
Kylian Mbappe is set to make an appearance for Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League clash against Real Sociedad, according to manager Luis Enrique. The PSG boss dismissed any suggestions that this could be Mbappe’s last home game in the competition for the club if they are eliminated by their Spanish opponents.
Mbappe has been at the center of intense transfer speculation recently, with reports suggesting that the French forward has made up his mind to join Real Madrid. However, for now, PSG’s focus is on their pursuit of their first-ever Champions League title, and they will have the services of their superstar forward, who has recovered from an ankle injury.
Speaking ahead of the first leg at the Parc des Princes, Enrique emphasized the importance of having a player of Mbappe’s caliber on the team. He stated, “The more he plays, the better it is for everyone. We all benefit, that’s our goal, there’s no doubt about that.” Enrique also revealed that Mbappe could have played in their previous match if it had been a final, but the risk was not worth it at that time.
When asked if this could be Mbappe’s last home game in the Champions League, Enrique firmly responded, “No. That is not how I feel about it.” He made it clear that the focus is solely on the upcoming match against Real Sociedad.
Enrique’s compatriot Fabian Ruiz also addressed the media before the game and echoed the sentiment of the team. Ruiz emphasized that the squad is fully concentrated on the match and that Mbappe’s future will be decided by the player himself. He stated, “We’re not talking about that. We’re just talking about football. And, right now, the only topic we’re discussing in the dressing room is tomorrow’s game.”
The clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Sociedad can be watched live on TNT Sports and discovery+ on Wednesday, 14 February, with kick-off at 20:00 UK time.
