Lucia Garcia scored twice as Manchester United defeated Tottenham in the Women’s FA Cup final to secure their first major trophy.
Lucia Garcia’s second-half brace propelled Manchester United to a resounding 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Wembley, securing the Women’s FA Cup and marking the club’s first major trophy in its history.
The match began with both teams vying for their maiden FA Cup title, but it was Marc Skinner’s United that ultimately dominated, following their defeat to Chelsea in last year’s final. The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 until the closing moments of the first half.
In a stunning display of skill, Ella Toone broke the deadlock for United. Starting from deep within their own half, Toone sprinted forward, cutting inside and unleashing a shot into the top corner, leaving Spurs goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer with no chance.
This goal opened the floodgates for United, who shifted into high gear in the second half. Rachel Williams extended their lead in the 54th minute with a precise header that found the back of the net at the far post. Just three minutes later, Garcia capitalized on a poor clearance from Spencer, tapping the ball into an empty net.
Tottenham had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 65th minute when Bethany England’s header struck the crossbar, epitomizing the frustrating day for the north London club. Spencer made a commendable save to deny Melvine Malard, but United secured their fourth goal as Garcia once again exploited Spurs’ defensive errors.
With victory all but assured, Toone and Garcia were substituted to a rousing ovation from the crowd of 70,000. Their teammates successfully navigated the final moments, sealing a historic occasion for Manchester United.
