Liverpool has finalized a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the acquisition of Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool have reached a full agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz in a deal worth £126m (€150m) including add-ons, according to German publication Kicker.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who reportedly agreed to the deal two weeks ago, is expected to sign for the Premier League champions when he returns from his holiday.
The total package of £126m is understood to include easily achievable bonuses as well as others dependent on Liverpool’s success, including whether they win the UEFA Champions League.
This development follows the Reds submitting a third formal bid last week, which was worth an initial £100m plus £14m in add-ons, falling £12m short of Leverkusen’s asking price.
A £126m fee would break the British transfer record of £115m paid by Chelsea for Moises Caicedo from Brighton in August 2023. It would also smash Liverpool’s record fee, having previously paid Benfica £85m for Darwin Nunez in June 2022.
Wirtz is set to become just the 10th player ever to be sold for a fee of over £100m. The German midfielder made clear his preference for joining Arne Slot’s side, despite interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Having made his Leverkusen debut at the age of 17, Wirtz has gone on to score 57 goals in 197 games for the German side. He registered 23 goal involvements in the Bundesliga during the 2023/24 campaign as Leverkusen went unbeaten to claim their first-ever league title.
He matched that tally once again last season as his side finished second, behind Bayern. Wirtz is set to join his former Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong, who made the move to Anfield earlier this summer for a fee of £29.5m.
