Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will be absent for a period of approximately four weeks due to a leg injury. Despite this setback, Salah is determined to recover in time to participate in the African Cup of Nations with the Egyptian national team.
Mo Salah’s leg injury has taken a turn for the worse, according to his agent, leaving the Liverpool forward facing a potential month-long absence from the pitch. The Egyptian star was forced to leave the field during Egypt’s 2-2 draw against Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations, being substituted just before half-time.
Initially, there was hope that Salah would only miss two of his country’s games in the tournament. However, his agent, Ramy Abbas, has now revealed that the injury is more severe than initially anticipated, stating that Salah will be out for 21-28 days.
In order to maximize his chances of participating in the current AFCON, Salah will undergo intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoin the team as soon as he is fit. As a result, Salah has already returned to England, leaving the Ivory Coast behind. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, has expressed his support for Salah receiving treatment on Merseyside, stating that it “makes sense” for him to do so.
The Egyptian Football Association had previously stated that Salah would only feature in the tournament again if Egypt reached the quarter-finals. If they progress from their group, Rui Vitoria’s side is scheduled to play their last 16 match on either January 28 or 29, with the quarter-finals taking place on February 2 or 3. The semi-finals are then set to occur a few days later, on February 7.
