Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League standings by defeating Bournemouth 4-0, with goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez were the heroes of the night as Liverpool secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, propelling them five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Despite missing key players Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the visitors managed to overcome a lackluster first half to dominate the game in the second half.
The match started off slowly, with few chances for either side. Liverpool seemed to be missing the creativity of Salah and the attacking threat of Alexander-Arnold. However, they came out with renewed energy after the break and quickly took the lead in the 49th minute.
Nunez calmly slotted home Jota’s perfectly timed pass, giving Liverpool the advantage. The Merseysiders continued to assert their dominance and extended their lead in the 70th minute.
Jota, who had been a constant threat throughout the game, unleashed a powerful shot that found the back of the net, leaving Bournemouth’s goalkeeper with no chance. Jota wasn’t done yet, as he added his second goal of the evening and his 11th of the season with a well-placed strike.
Nunez then delivered the final blow to Bournemouth in stoppage time, completing his brace and sealing the 4-0 victory for Liverpool. The result sees Liverpool extend their lead over second-placed Manchester City to five points, although they have played one more game than the defending champions.
Bournemouth, on the other hand, find themselves in 12th place and are comfortably nine points clear of the relegation zone. Their focus now shifts to the FA Cup fourth round, where they will face Championship side Swansea City on Thursday evening.
Liverpool’s next challenge comes in the form of the League Cup semi-final second leg against Fulham on Wednesday night. With their commanding lead, they will be looking to secure their spot in the final and continue their pursuit of silverware.
