Lazio narrowly defeat Cagliari, Empoli climb out of relegation zone with Genoa draw
In Serie A, Lazio emerged victorious with a crucial win against Cagliari, securing a 1-0 score at the Stadio Olimpico. The decisive goal came from Pedro in the eighth minute, allowing Maurizio Sarri’s squad to rise to the ninth position in the league ranking. Cagliari faced a frustrating evening as they were left with only 10 players after Antoine Makoumbou’s yellow card was overturned to a red following a VAR review. Unfortunately, Sarri’s team encountered a setback when Luis Alberto had to leave the field due to injury during the second half. However, Lazio almost increased their advantage when Taty Castellanos’ shot was stopped by Simone Scuffet’s impressive reflex save. The Biancocelesti will now turn their attention to their next game against Genoa on Tuesday. In the meantime, Cagliari, who are still in the bottom three, will have a home match against Sassuolo on December 11.
In a different Serie A match, Empoli successfully climbed out of the relegation zone by earning a 1-1 draw against Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. Junior Messias had an opportunity in the beginning to score for the home team, but his shot struck the crossbar. Genoa gained the advantage with Ruslan Malinovskyi’s powerful shot from a distance before the first half ended.
Empoli faced difficulties in the latter half but eventually managed to level the score when Matteo Cancellieri scored his first goal for the club with a header from Viktor Kovalenko’s assist. As a result, Genoa currently holds the 15th position with 15 points from 14 matches, while Empoli sits in 17th place, only one point ahead of Cagliari in the relegation zone. In the final moments of the game, Genoa had a chance to secure a victory, but Mateo Retegui’s header missed the target. Alberto Gilardino’s squad will confront Lazio in their next fixture scheduled for Tuesday, whereas Empoli will have a home match against Lecce on December 11.
Turning our attention to the future, AC Milan is set to compete against Frosinone in their upcoming Saturday evening match.
