Lamine Yamal: Hansi Flick thinks that the Barcelona sensation has room for improvement and advises him to stay humble.
Lamine Yamal, the talented right winger from Spain and FC Barcelona, is celebrating after his team’s victory in the UEFA EURO 2024 final match against England at Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany. The new head coach of Barcelona, Hansi Flick, has expressed his belief that Yamal has limitless potential and can still improve.
At just 17 years old, Yamal had a sensational performance in the European Championships, helping Spain secure their fourth title by defeating England 2-1 in the final. This remarkable achievement comes just over a year after his club debut.
However, Yamal will need to adjust to the changes at Camp Nou this summer, following the departure of manager Xavi. Flick, the former Bayern Munich boss, is excited to work with the young talent and praised his progress.
Flick stated, “He has done a really great job in the last year, he has improved a lot. What he did in the Euro is unbelievable. But great players maintain their performance and now it is necessary for him to keep his feet on the ground. I think he is a great guy. I spoke with him before, when I arrived, and he is now in this team and of course, he gives us great moments but he can improve and make things better. He is on a really fantastic path.”
Yamal’s journey began at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy. He made an impressive start to his club career, debuting at the age of 15 in a 4-0 victory over Real Betis in April 2023. By September, he earned a spot in the Spain squad and scored within minutes of his international debut, contributing to a 7-1 win against Georgia in Euro 2024 qualifying.
His performance continued to flourish, and he scored a stunning goal as Spain defeated hosts France 2-1 in the European Championships semi-finals. Flick hopes that Yamal’s progression will continue at the club level and lead to more silverware this season.
Taking charge of a club that failed to win any trophies in the previous season, Flick is no stranger to success. He guided Bayern Munich to a historic sextuple and aims to replicate that achievement in Spain. Flick emphasized the importance of playing attractive and attacking football, stating, “What I want to see is that we are playing really good football, attacking football, and that everyone can see that this team really gives a lot for this club. I think this is crucial. You can only win with the biggest clubs, which is why I am here. I am not saying that I will win every title like that but if we work hard we can achieve this.”
