Kylian Mbappe shines as PSG emerge victorious against Lens, extending their lead at the summit of Ligue 1 by eight points.
Bradley Barcola (R) was the hero of the match as he celebrated with his teammates after scoring the first goal for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their French L1 football match against RC Lens. The victory extended PSG’s lead at the top of the table to a comfortable eight points.
The game could have taken a different turn if Lens had capitalized on a penalty awarded in the sixth minute. Danilo Pereira was deemed to have fouled Faitout Maouassa, giving Lens the opportunity to take an early lead. However, Przemyslaw Frankowski’s penalty was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, who stood his ground and pushed the ball away with his legs.
PSG seized the opportunity and took the lead in the 30th minute. Kylian Mbappe showcased his brilliance by delivering a perfectly timed pass to Bradley Barcola, who skillfully chipped the ball past Brice Samba and into the net.
Lens’ hopes were further dashed on the stroke of half time when Barcola’s impressive dribbling drew a cynical foul from Jonathan Gradit. After consulting the sideline screen, the referee upgraded Gradit’s initial booking to a red card, reducing Lens to ten men.
Despite being a man down, Lens remained a threat in the second half. However, PSG’s star player, Mbappe, ensured his team’s victory by starting a counter-attack and finishing it off with a low shot inside the far post, courtesy of a pass from Ousmane Dembele.
With this win, PSG solidified their position at the top of the table, now eight points clear of their closest rivals. The team’s performance was a testament to their skill and determination, with Mbappe playing a pivotal role in both setting up a goal and scoring one himself.
