Kylian Mbappe is expected to make a comeback in Euro 2024 for France wearing a mask following the confirmation of a broken nose.
In a thrilling match between France and Austria at Euro 2024, Kylian Mbappe unfortunately suffered a broken nose. However, the French Football Federation has confirmed that the talented forward will be able to continue playing with the aid of a protective mask.
The incident occurred late in the game when Mbappe collided with Austrian defender Kevin Danso while contesting a header. Following the clash, Mbappe was substituted and taken for x-rays to assess the extent of his injury.
Initial concerns were that Mbappe would require surgery and face a significant period on the sidelines. However, it now appears that he will be able to make a swift return to action. Although no specific timeline has been provided, the French Football Federation has expressed confidence in Mbappe’s ability to resume playing.
A statement from the federation read, “Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second half of the Austria v France match this Monday in Duesseldorf. The captain of the French team was first taken care of by the medical staff and doctor Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed a broken nose. Diagnosis confirmed during radiological examinations at the Duesseldorf hospital.”
Mbappe has since returned to the French team’s base camp and will undergo treatment in the coming days. Fortunately, surgery will not be necessary at this stage. Instead, a custom-made mask will be created to ensure the number 10 can safely resume competition after a period of recovery.
In a show of resilience and determination, Mbappe took to social media to ask his followers for design ideas for his protective mask. This display of positivity and engagement with fans further highlights his commitment to returning to the pitch as soon as possible.
France, one of the tournament favorites, will face the Netherlands in their next group game on Friday, followed by a match against Poland the following Tuesday. With Mbappe’s injury setback, the French team will be hoping for a swift recovery as they aim to secure the Euro 2024 title.
