Kylian Mbappe is aiming to add the Euros to his collection of prestigious trophies.

Kylian Mbappe, the French forward who recently joined Real Madrid, has expressed his determination to add the Euros to his already impressive collection of trophies. At just 25 years old, Mbappe has already won the World Cup, Nations League, and multiple domestic leagues, making his CV worthy of legendary status. While he is expected to win the Champions League with Real Madrid and potentially the Ballon d’Or, his immediate focus is on achieving more success on the international stage.

In an interview with CNN, Mbappe stated, “I want to win the Euros. I have to be honest. I won the World Cup. I won the Nations League. That’s the only one that missed me with the national team after I did everything with the national team.” As he prepares for his fourth major tournament with France, and his first as captain, Mbappe emphasized the importance of winning the Euros, not only for himself but also for the country. He sees it as another opportunity to make history for his country.

France, led by manager Didier Deschamps, heads into the Euros as one of the favorites to win the title. However, their record at the tournament in the last two decades has not been impressive. Their best result was a runner-up spot in 2016, losing to Portugal. They redeemed themselves by winning the World Cup in 2018 but suffered a disappointing exit at Euro 2020, losing to Switzerland in the last-16 shootout, with Mbappe missing a crucial penalty.

Looking ahead to the 2022 World Cup final, Mbappe acknowledged the pain of their previous defeat but expressed a determination to move forward. He stated, “Now, when I watch the video of the game, I watch with a smile because it’s part of the history and we know what we have to do if we go again in the final. We have to play all the game and not have a reaction.”

France boasts a talented squad, with established stars like Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and N’Golo Kanté, as well as emerging talents like Bradley Barcola, William Saliba, and Eduardo Camavinga. However, former France defender and captain Patrice Evra believes that France’s biggest threat is themselves. He emphasized the importance of not underestimating opponents and avoiding arrogance.

France’s group in the Euros, which includes Austria, Poland, and the Netherlands, may appear straightforward on paper but poses potential challenges. Evra acknowledged the strength of all the teams in the tournament and emphasized the need for France to take it step by step.

In the modern age of football, where players are often judged on what they haven’t won, Mbappe is determined to add more titles to his name. With only a few trophies eluding him, he has the opportunity to make history this summer by winning the Euros.
