Kyle Walker and Pep Guardiola shower compliments on Stefan Ortega following City’s victory over Tottenham.

Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega emerged as the unsung hero in his team’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Tuesday night. The German shot-stopper was called into action after Ederson suffered a serious blow to the head from Cristian Romero and was unable to continue.

Ortega showcased his skills with a fantastic save from a Dejan Kulusevki attempt and a potential match-winning shot from Son Heung-min in the 86th minute. Son was released by Brennan Johnson after intercepting Manuel Akanji’s sloppy pass, but Ortega denied him the equalizer.

A few minutes later, Erling Haaland made the save even more significant by confidently converting a penalty into the top corner after Jeremy Doku was fouled by Pedro Porro.

This 2-0 victory propels City back to the top of the Premier League, two points ahead of Arsenal. If Pep Guardiola’s side can secure a win against West Ham on the final day of the season, they will achieve an unprecedented fourth consecutive league title.

Guardiola praised his substitute goalkeeper, acknowledging his consistent performance since joining the team. He highlighted Ortega’s incredible saves against formidable opponents like Kulusevski, Maddison, Johnson, and Son. Guardiola recognized the speed and skill possessed by these players and commended Ortega for his exceptional performance.

Ortega’s heroics have set the stage for a crucial showdown with West Ham on the final day of the season, determining whether City can secure the record-breaking fourth consecutive title.

Kyle Walker also showered praise on Ortega, comparing him to Bayern Munich and German legend Manuel Neuer. Walker admired Ortega’s technical ability and likened his style to Neuer’s renowned spreading technique. Despite Akanji’s overall impressive performance, Walker acknowledged the unfortunate nature of one mistake potentially leading to a goal.

City now face David Moyes’ West Ham side at the Etihad on Sunday, May 19. A victory in this match would secure City’s sixth Premier League title in seven seasons, solidifying their dominance in English football.
