Kevin De Bruyne makes a comeback as Manchester City triumph 5-0 over Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup third round, securing their place in the next stage.
Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb of Manchester City were in high spirits as they celebrated their team’s third goal in a dominant 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup. Foden was the star of the show, scoring twice to help his side cruise into the fourth round.
Manchester City, under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, put on a masterclass performance, with Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku also finding the back of the net. The return of Kevin De Bruyne from injury added to the team’s strength, as they secured their 12th consecutive home victory in the competition.
Despite their early dominance, City had to wait until the 33rd minute for Foden to break the deadlock with a powerful strike into the far corner. Just four minutes later, Alvarez doubled the lead with a delightful move.
The hosts continued to dominate and extended their lead to 3-0 just before the hour mark when Ben Jackson inadvertently diverted Bobb’s cross into his own net. Foden then grabbed his second goal in the 65th minute, showcasing his skill as he beat Lee Nicholls with a superb 20-yard strike, assisted by Sergio Gomez and Mateo Kovacic.
Jeremy Doku, who had recently returned from injury, put the icing on the cake for City by volleying in De Bruyne’s cross 16 minutes from time. This comprehensive victory will undoubtedly give City a boost of momentum as they prepare to face Premier League leaders Liverpool away at Newcastle United on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Huddersfield will be looking to bounce back from this heavy defeat when they host Plymouth Argyle in the Championship. Darren Moore’s side has been struggling for form, having only won one of their last nine matches.
