Kepa Arrizabalaga has finalized his move from Chelsea to Arsenal following a successful loan period at Bournemouth, where he is expected to serve as a backup to David Raya.

‘We are on the right trajectory’ – Arteta positive for the future at Arsenal

In a significant move, Kepa Arrizabalaga has left Chelsea to join Arsenal, marking the departure of the world’s most expensive goalkeeper from Stamford Bridge after a seven-year stint with the club.

The Spanish shot-stopper exits Chelsea having secured a remarkable haul of silverware, including the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Kepa made his way to Chelsea in 2018 for a staggering £71.6 million but faced challenges in adapting to life in West London. His journey included a loan spell at Real Madrid during the 2023/24 season, followed by a season with Premier League side Bournemouth.

“I’m really, really happy to be here, really excited and looking forward to what is coming,” Kepa expressed on Arsenal’s official website.

He continued, “The ambition that is shown in this club, when I talk with Mikel (Arteta) and Inaki (Cana), how much they show me their desire to win… I think we are so close to winning and, hopefully, altogether, we can achieve it.”

During his time with Bournemouth, Kepa made a notable impact, featuring in 31 Premier League matches and playing a pivotal role in the club’s impressive ninth-place finish.

Arsenal, on the other hand, finished second in the league for the third consecutive season last term, and Mikel Arteta is optimistic that Kepa’s experience will be invaluable in the upcoming campaign.

“We are really happy to have Kepa joining us,” Arteta stated. “He is a player we know, having come up against him many times in recent seasons. He brings a wealth of experience, which his teammates will benefit from, and he has a real hunger to win.”

Arteta added, “Kepa works hard and will elevate our levels. I know he will fit in perfectly, already knowing some of his teammates, and we are really excited about his future with us.”
