Juventus has officially announced the departure of coach Max Allegri shortly after winning the Coppa Italia.
Juventus have made the decision to part ways with manager Max Allegri, just days after the team’s triumph in the Coppa Italia. This victory marked the club’s first piece of silverware in two seasons, but with Inter Milan dominating Serie A, the pressure had been mounting on Allegri.
Rumours had been circulating that Allegri would be replaced in the summer, but recent controversies may have expedited his departure. Alongside tensions with the club’s executives, Allegri reportedly threatened a journalist, which likely played a role in the decision.
On Friday afternoon, Juventus confirmed Allegri’s exit with an official statement on their website. The statement cited certain behaviours during and after the Coppa Italia final that were deemed incompatible with the values of the club. It marked the end of a collaboration that began in 2014, resumed in 2021, and concluded with the Italian Cup final after three previous seasons together. The club wished Allegri good luck in his future endeavours.
Despite facing mounting pressure, Allegri, at 56 years old, is one of the most successful managers in Juventus’ history. He initially took charge in 2014 before departing in 2019, securing five consecutive Serie A titles and reaching two UEFA Champions League finals. Upon his return in 2021, Allegri was unable to compete with the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli in the Serie A race. However, he did secure Champions League football for the team after finishing seventh in the 2022/23 season.
As the search for a new manager begins, Bologna manager Thiago Motta has emerged as a potential candidate to fill the vacancy in Turin for the upcoming season.
