Joao Felix finds the back of the net as Barcelona brings an end to Atletico Madrid’s 25-game undefeated streak at home in the league.

Joao Felix, the talented Portuguese forward on loan at FC Barcelona, delivered a stunning blow to his parent club as he celebrated a goal during the Spanish League clash against Atletico de Madrid. The match took place at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium in Madrid, Spain on March 17, 2024.

In what turned out to be a dominant performance by Barcelona, Joao Felix seized the opportunity to haunt his former team by sliding home the opening goal. Despite only making his fifth start of the season, the young forward showcased his prowess in front of the net, capitalizing on a chance in the 39th minute.

Barcelona initially struggled to find their rhythm in the game, but they quickly shifted gears and displayed their true potential. However, their manager, Xavi, was sent off for expressing his frustration towards the officials. This setback did not deter the team’s determination.

Just two minutes into the second half, Robert Lewandowski, the experienced Polish striker, doubled Barcelona’s lead with a magnificent finish from a tight angle. Not content with just scoring, Lewandowski then turned into a playmaker, providing a perfect cross for Fermin Lopez to seal the victory.

To compound Atletico’s misery, Nahuel Molina committed a foul on Vitor Roque in the final minutes, resulting in a red card. This defeat not only shattered Atletico’s unbeaten home league record but also pushed them a point outside the top four Champions League positions.

Despite the impressive win, Barcelona still find themselves eight points behind league leaders Real Madrid. On the other hand, Atletico must regroup and strive to regain their position in the top four to secure a spot in the prestigious Champions League.
