In a thrilling turn of events, Liverpool teenager Jayden Danns has described his recent success as feeling like something out of a movie. The 18-year-old scored twice in a 3-0 victory against Southampton, securing a spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester United. This remarkable achievement comes just a week after Danns made his first-team debut against Luton in the Premier League.
Danns’ rapid rise to prominence has seen him accumulate three appearances, two goals, and even a trophy, thanks to his cameo appearance in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final win against Chelsea at Wembley.
Speaking to ITV after the FA Cup match, Danns expressed his disbelief, stating, “It is a dream come true. I’ve supported the club since birth. To come on and score at the Kop End is amazing, it doesn’t feel true. It feels like I’m in a film.”
The young talent’s second goal was a moment of pure joy for Danns, who initially didn’t believe it was possible. He admitted, “I was happy with one. I lost all composure.” Danns’ father, former Crystal Palace and Bolton midfielder Neil Danns, was overcome with emotion during his son’s debut and it remains to be seen how he will react to this latest achievement.
Grateful for the opportunities he has been given, Danns acknowledged the injury-hit squad that has allowed him to shine. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has turned to the club’s talented young players, starting six players aged 21 or younger against Southampton. Lewis Koumas, who scored the opening goal on his debut, was one of the standout performers.
Reflecting on the team’s recent success, Klopp described it as a special week for everyone involved. He acknowledged the difficulties they faced in the match against Southampton but praised the players for their resilience. Klopp also highlighted Danns’ ability to anticipate goals, stating, “Danns, you could see that second goal coming, he has that nose. We saw it in the final. He had that luck and he was there to score that goal. It was a wonderful game to watch.”
Harvey Elliott, who has already made over 100 appearances for Liverpool at the age of 20, commended Danns and the other emerging talents for their contributions. Despite the emotional high of the Carabao Cup final, Elliott emphasized the importance of staying focused on the task at hand.
Liverpool’s victory over Southampton sets up an enticing clash with rivals Manchester United in the next round at Old Trafford. Elliott acknowledged the challenge but remained determined, stating, “The games don’t stop. It is going to be tough, especially away, but we won’t concentrate on that now. We’ve got another tough game at the weekend and we’ll just keep going and go game by game.”
