Jamie Vardy: Leicester City icon set to depart the club at the conclusion of the season.

Jamie Vardy has announced his departure from Leicester City at the end of the season in an emotional message shared on the club’s social media platforms.

The England international, who played a pivotal role in Leicester’s stunning Premier League title triumph during the 2015-16 season, scored an impressive 24 goals that year. Vardy also etched his name in the record books by surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy’s long-standing record for scoring in consecutive Premier League matches, netting in 11 games in a row.

Despite his efforts in helping Leicester secure promotion back to the Premier League last season, Vardy was unable to prevent the club’s relegation to the Championship this term.

In a heartfelt video statement, he addressed the fans: “To the fans of Leicester, I’m gutted that this day is coming, but I knew it was going to come eventually. After 13 unbelievable years at this club, with lots of success and some downs, it is finally time to call it a day.”

He continued, “I’m devastated about it, but I think the timing is right. I just want to sincerely thank you all for taking me in as one of your own. Leicester will always have a massive place in my heart and I will make sure that I am following in the years to come for what I hope will be even more success for the club.”

Vardy concluded his message with a promise: “As for now, this is my goodbye, but you will see again soon I promise. Thank you.”

Leicester’s relegation was confirmed following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

Since joining the club from Fleetwood Town in 2012, Vardy has made 496 appearances and scored 198 goals for The Foxes. He holds the record as Leicester City’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League, with 143 goals to his name.

Additionally, Vardy was instrumental in securing the club’s first FA Cup victory in 2021 during his time at the King Power Stadium.
