James Milner expressed his dissatisfaction with the draw against West Ham United, while Hammers manager David Moyes was delighted with the earned point.
Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder James Milner expressed his disappointment after his team’s draw against West Ham at the London Stadium on Tuesday. The match ended goalless, with West Ham breaking their streak of 101 home matches without a 0-0 draw, while Brighton secured their first clean sheet of the season.
Milner, who equaled Ryan Giggs’ record of 632 Premier League appearances, believed that Brighton deserved more than just a point from the game. He stated that his team controlled the match, especially in the second half, and created enough chances to score. However, they were unable to find the back of the net, which was disappointing for Milner. He did, however, praise the performance of some of the players who returned to the team after a spell on the sidelines, particularly Pervis Estupinan and Adam Webster.
Despite the frustrating result, Milner remained optimistic and highlighted the importance of the clean sheet. He believed that Brighton had enough positives to take from the game and hoped that they could build on their defensive solidity in the new year to improve their attacking prowess.
On the other hand, West Ham manager David Moyes was delighted with the point his team earned from the match. He admitted that Brighton played well and were the better team in the second half, creating several chances that were saved by West Ham’s goalkeeper. Moyes acknowledged that his team had a great opportunity to score through Thomas Soucek but was relieved that they managed to secure a clean sheet.
West Ham entered the game on the back of an impressive 2-0 victory against Arsenal, with Soucek and Konstantinos Mavropanos finding the net. With Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma unavailable, Mavropanos has been given a chance to shine in the center-back position and has contributed to three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League.
Moyes praised his makeshift defense for their compact and organized performance, especially against strong opposition during the busy Christmas period. He acknowledged that his team lacked quality in the attacking third but commended the defensive efforts of the players who had not been regular starters. Overall, Moyes was pleased with his team’s defensive display and their ability to do what was necessary to keep the opposition at bay.
