In the first leg of the quarter-final in Sweden, Paris Saint-Germain secured a victory against Hacken in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain secured a crucial 2-1 victory over BK Hacken in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final. The French side will now carry a slim advantage into the second leg as they aim to clinch their first-ever title in the competition.
PSG, who have been runners-up twice before, were the clear favorites heading into the match. They wasted no time in asserting their dominance, taking the lead in the 23rd minute. American defender Eva Gaetino, who joined the team in February, pounced on a rebound after Tabitha Chawinga’s header was saved by Jennifer Falk.
However, Hacken fought back and found an equalizer just before halftime. Thiniba Samoura fouled Anna Anvegard in the box, resulting in a penalty for Hacken. Although Katarzyna Kiedrzynek saved Rosa Kafaji’s spot-kick, Kafaji was quick to react and converted the rebound.
Tabitha Chawinga, who has been in sensational form this season, stepped up once again for PSG. The Malawi forward scored the winning goal in the 74th minute, capitalizing on Amalie Vangsgaard’s cross.
PSG’s goalkeeper Kiedrzynek made a crucial save late in the game to deny Kafaji a second goal and preserve her team’s lead. The second leg of the quarter-final will take place on March 28, where PSG will look to defend their advantage and secure a spot in the semi-finals.
In another Champions League quarter-final match, Chelsea cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Ajax. Sjoeke Nusken was the standout performer for Chelsea, scoring two goals to help her team take a commanding lead in the tie.
Looking ahead, the quarter-final clash between Norway’s Brann and reigning champions Barcelona promises to be an exciting encounter.
