In an exclusive interview, Anthony Gordon, a forward for Newcastle, discusses the transformation in mentality happening at the club, as shared with Rio Ferdinand.

In a recent interview with TNT Sports’ Rio Ferdinand on Between The Lines, Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon opened up about the “mindset shift” he has experienced since joining the club from Everton. The 22-year-old forward has been in sensational form this season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 19 Premier League appearances.

One of Gordon’s standout moments came in a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in December, where he displayed incredible determination to make a run to the far post and slot home a cross from Kieran Trippier. Reflecting on the goal, Gordon emphasized the change in his mindset, stating, “I’m not even thinking about him [Guimaraes] passing me the ball. I’m thinking, ‘get it to Tripps, let me get back post and score.’ So, it’s a mindset shift.”

During the interview, Ferdinand also showed Gordon a clip from his time at Everton, where he failed to position himself effectively to influence play. Gordon admitted that watching the clip was “annoying” and acknowledged that he was not mature enough at that time to take on the advice given by his former manager, Frank Lampard.

Since joining Newcastle almost a year ago, Gordon has had to adapt to the demands of manager Eddie Howe. He revealed that it took him some time to adjust to the high standards set by Howe and the team, but he has gradually improved and is now thriving under the former Bournemouth manager.

In other news, Erling Haaland and John Stones will be absent from Manchester City’s upcoming match against Newcastle. City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed their absence in a press conference.
