Following Sven-Goran Eriksson’s cancer diagnosis, he has been appointed as the manager of Liverpool for a charity match against Ajax, featuring legends.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight at the progress of Mohamed Salah’s return to fitness. The Egyptian forward has been sidelined with a groin injury since December, but Klopp believes Salah is heading in the “right direction” and could be back in action soon.
In other news, Liverpool have announced that former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will be part of the management team for a legends charity match against Ajax. Eriksson, who revealed in January that he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, will join a dugout of Liverpool greats for the annual LFC Foundation charity match at Anfield on March 23.
The match aims to raise funds for the club’s charities, with previous legends matches raising an impressive £1.45 million. Liverpool fans can look forward to seeing the likes of Jerzy Dudek, Martin Skrtel, and Djibril Cisse representing the club, while Ryan Babel will feature for both sides.
Eriksson, who managed England from 2001 to 2006, has had a successful managerial career, winning 18 titles at various domestic teams. He took England to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and has also managed Mexico, Ivory Coast, and the Philippines.
Klopp has described Eriksson’s love for Liverpool as “very touching” and has welcomed him to Anfield for the charity match. The Liverpool manager even joked that Eriksson could take his seat in the dugout and do his job for a day if he wanted.
But for now, Liverpool’s focus is on their upcoming Premier League match against Brentford. The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports on Saturday, February 17. Liverpool will be hoping to continue their strong form and maintain their position at the top of the table.
