Ferran Torres scores three goals to secure victory for Xavi’s team in La Liga as Real Betis loses 2-4 to Barcelona.
Ferran Torres produced a sensational hat-trick as Barcelona narrowed the gap on La Liga leaders Real Madrid to just seven points in a thrilling 4-2 victory over Real Betis. The match, which took place at the Benito Villamarin in Seville, saw Xavi’s men dominate proceedings as Torres found the back of the net on the 21st and 48th minutes, giving Barca a commanding 2-0 lead.
Up until that point, Manuel Pellegrini’s home side had been rather passive. However, they quickly turned the game around when Isco scored two sublime goals in quick succession on the 56th and 59th minutes, leveling the score at 2-2. With the match becoming a back-and-forth battle, the winner could have come from either side.
In the final minute, Barca executed a clinical attacking move, with substitute João Félix providing the assist for Torres to score with the outside of his boot, securing the victory. And in added time, Torres completed his hat-trick with a superb chipped finish after receiving a pass from Lamine Yamal.
With this crucial win, Barca now sit in third place in the standings with 44 points from 20 matches, trailing Los Blancos by seven points. Real Madrid, on the other hand, secured a 3-2 victory over Almeria earlier in the day, moving two points clear of Girona.
