Lille’s English midfielder, Angel Gomes, believes that the young team’s lack of age restrictions on leadership is what sets them apart. Speaking exclusively to TNT Sports, Gomes praised his teammate Jonathan David as the most selfless striker he has played with.

Gomes highlighted the young stars at Lille, including 18-year-old Leny Yoro and 24-year-old Alexsandro Ribeiro in defence, 22-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, 21-year-old right-back Tiago Santos, and 24-year-old winger Edon Zhegrova.

Lille has a reputation for giving young players opportunities, and Gomes believes that their incredible academy and scouting networks contribute to their success. Unlike other teams, Lille’s young players thrive and find their way in the team. Gomes credits this to the trust and support they receive from the coach and their teammates.

Gomes also spoke highly of manager Paulo Fonseca, who he describes as someone who lives and breathes football. Fonseca’s enthusiasm and charisma have had a positive impact on the young players at Lille. Gomes, who is 5″6′ and often overlooked due to his height, appreciates that Fonseca values his abilities regardless of his stature.

Gomes has played in various positions, including as a No. 10, deeper as an eight or six, and out on the wings. He believes that contributing and being on the ball is more important than playing in a specific position.

Gomes emphasized the selflessness of Jonathan David, who he considers the most selfless striker he has played with. David’s work rate and dedication to the team are exceptional, even if he doesn’t always score goals.
