Everton managed to secure a goalless draw against Aston Villa, thus breaking their streak of three consecutive losses.

In a Premier League clash at Goodison Park, Aston Villa’s John McGinn showcased his ball control skills against Everton FC on January 14, 2024. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, which saw Everton halt their three-game losing streak.

Aston Villa had high hopes of securing a victory to reclaim their second-place position after Manchester City’s triumph over Newcastle United on Saturday. However, Sean Dyche’s team proved to be a tough nut to crack, resulting in Unai Emery overseeing his first-ever Premier League goalless draw.

The game had its fair share of controversial moments. Alex Moreno’s exceptional strike was disallowed by VAR due to Leon Bailey being offside in the build-up. Despite Villa’s dominance in possession, the best opportunity of the match fell to Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was denied by the impressive Emiliano Martinez. Martinez continued his heroics by saving James Garner’s subsequent rebound effort.

In the second half, Villa struggled to find their rhythm in a scrappy affair. Substitutes Jhon Duran and Matty Cash came close to breaking the deadlock, but their efforts fell short. On the other end, Abdoulaye Doucoure had a goal disallowed for offside.

As a result of the draw, Aston Villa currently sits in third place, level on points with Manchester City. However, they trail the reigning champions on goal difference. Everton, on the other hand, managed to move one point clear of the relegation zone.
