Euro 2024: Alvaro Morata de España considera abandonar el Atlético de Madrid y retirarse de la selección nacional debido a la falta de ‘respeto’.
Alvaro Morata, the talented forward from Atletico Madrid, has dropped a hint that he may be leaving the club this summer. Furthermore, he has suggested that Euro 2024 could potentially be his last tournament representing Spain.
The 31-year-old has been a key player for his team in the ongoing Euro 2020, featuring in four out of five matches and even scoring in the victory against Croatia. It is highly likely that he will be in the starting lineup for their upcoming semi-final clash against France on Tuesday.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Morata stated, “It could be my last tournament with Spain. It’s a possibility that I don’t want to talk about too much, but it’s probable.”
Morata has faced criticism from national team fans during Euro 2020, as well as earlier this year in a friendly match against Brazil at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu. The experienced forward has previously played for top clubs such as Real Madrid, Juventus, and Chelsea, in addition to his current stint at Atletico. He expressed his difficulties in finding happiness while playing in La Liga.
“In Spain, it’s hard for me to be happy,” Morata admitted. “Without a doubt, I’m happier outside of Spain. I’ve said it many times. Above all, because people respect me. In Spain, there’s no respect for anything or anyone.”
Morata also addressed the criticism he faced for appearing to cry during the match against Germany, clarifying that it was due to the joy of leading his country to the semi-finals, rather than receiving a yellow card. He expressed his frustration at being criticized for such a moment.
“I try to enjoy this tournament, which could be my last games with the national team, and in the future, what will be, will be,” Morata shared. “Maybe one day they’ll even miss me. Each day, the moment for leaving is closer, that’s why I enjoy it, that’s why I cry, that’s why I’ll cry at whatever comes next, for good or bad.”
While Morata recently expressed his desire to win trophies with Atletico Madrid, he now questions whether that will be possible as he contemplates a potential move away from the club.
“It isn’t nice,” Morata admitted. “That’s why I still think, although I’m focused on the Euros, that I don’t know if it’s best for me to stay in Spain.. I’ve said I’m dying to win trophies with Atletico, but then you have to weigh up if it’s worth it or not.”
