During the match between Egypt and Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah sustained an injury.
Liverpool’s star striker, Mohamed Salah, suffered an injury during Egypt’s group stage match against Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations. The incident occurred just before half-time, as Salah went down with a suspected hamstring injury and had to be substituted. Mostafa Fathi took his place on the field, while defender Ahmed Hegazi assumed the captain’s armband.
Unfortunately for Egypt, they were dealt another blow shortly after Salah’s departure. Mohammed Kudus scored a powerful strike from outside the penalty box, giving Ghana a 1-0 lead heading into half-time. However, Omar Marmoush equalized for the Pharaohs after the break, only for Kudus to score his second goal of the night and put Ghana back in the lead. Mostafa Mohamed then scored a second equalizer, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
Salah’s injury will undoubtedly concern Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who is already dealing with a number of injured players. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara, and Stefan Bajcetic are all currently sidelined.
Despite the setback, Klopp remains confident that Liverpool can cope with Salah’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations. He believes that the club’s attacking options, including Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo, are sufficient solutions to fill the void left by Salah.
“We have to get through this,” Klopp stated. “We know the Africa Cup of Nations is approaching, and Mo has to go, so we have to deal with it. That was always clear.”
Egypt’s match against Ghana was their second in Group B, where they currently sit in second place after two games. They will likely need a victory in their final match against Cape Verde to secure a spot in the round of 16.
