Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth completes a historic £65m move to Tottenham Hotspur, while Ange Postecoglou secures a new striker.
Tottenham Hotspur have made a significant announcement, confirming the arrival of striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in a deal worth a staggering £65 million. This record-breaking signing sees the 26-year-old join Spurs on a contract that will keep him at the club until 2030, making him the most expensive player in the club’s history. This surpasses the previous record set by Tanguy Ndombele, who was signed for £63 million from Lyon.
The transfer of Solanke also marks a record sale for Bournemouth, as they bid farewell to Nathan Ake for £40 million in the summer of 2020. According to reports, the English forward will initially join Spurs for £55 million, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons.
Solanke had an exceptional season for Bournemouth in 2023/24, scoring an impressive 19 goals in the Premier League. This achievement not only helped his team but also secured his place in the club’s history as the player with the most top-flight goals in a single season.
Spurs unveiled the signing of Solanke with a captivating anime-inspired video, paying homage to the player’s love for anime and his goal celebrations, such as wearing a Naruto mask. Manager Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that Solanke can replicate his outstanding form from the south coast as he joins the squad in north London. With a total of 58 goals across all competitions in the last three seasons, Solanke has proven himself to be a prolific scorer.
Solanke is the third signing for Spurs this summer, following the acquisitions of midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden in Sweden. Additionally, the club has secured a deal for teenage winger Min-hyeok Yang, who will join from South Korea’s Gangwon FC in January.
With the arrival of Solanke, Tottenham now have three strong options at centre-forward, with loanee Timo Werner and Brazilian Richarlison vying for a starting position alongside the Englishman. The competition for the striking role promises to be fierce, and fans will be eagerly anticipating the impact Solanke will make on the team.
