Danny Ings came off the bench to secure a draw for West Ham against Burnley, while Brighton narrowly defeated Nottingham Forest.
In a thrilling Premier League clash at the London Stadium, Danny Ings emerged as the hero for West Ham United, snatching a draw against his former club Burnley. The visitors, led by Vincent Kompany, arrived in east London at the bottom of the league table, desperately seeking their first win since December 23.
However, it was Burnley who took an early lead, with Chelsea loanee David Datro Fofana showcasing his goalscoring prowess by unleashing a powerful strike from 25 yards, leaving West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola helpless. The Clarets extended their advantage just before half time, as West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos inadvertently put the ball into his own net from Josh Cullen’s cross.
The second half saw an immediate response from the hosts, as Lucas Paqueta capitalized on sloppy Burnley defending, dispossessing Dara O’Shea before calmly slotting the ball past James Trafford. With the game finely poised, Danny Ings entered the fray in the 82nd minute, hoping to make an impact.
Ings thought he had set up a grandstand finish when he found the back of the net five minutes later, but his strike was disallowed due to an offside call against fellow substitute Michail Antonio. However, Ings was not to be denied, as he pounced on a fortuitous ricochet from a cross, volleying the ball home to secure a draw for the below-par hosts and score his first goal in a year, leaving Burnley devastated.
Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove Albion bounced back from their midweek UEFA Europa League defeat in Rome with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Amex Stadium. An own goal from Andrew Omobamidele, who inadvertently redirected a Pascal Gross free-kick into the net, proved to be the difference between the two sides.
After their disappointing performance in Italy, Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi made seven changes to his starting lineup. The Seagulls dominated possession, while Forest attempted to exploit the spaces left by Brighton’s attacking play. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side failed to find an equalizer, allowing Brighton to hold on for the win and climb to eighth place in the league standings.
