Copenhagen goalkeeper Kamil Grabara makes a critical mistake against Manchester City while wearing a mask.
Kamil Grabara, the goalkeeper for F.C. Copenhagen, made a costly mistake during their UEFA Champions League match against Manchester City. The Polish stopper allowed a shot from Julian Alvarez to slip through his hands, resulting in Copenhagen going 2-0 down within the first 10 minutes of the last-16 clash. This put City 5-1 ahead on aggregate with plenty of time left to play.
Rio Ferdinand, a pundit for TNT Sports, compared Grabara’s error to a contestant on “The Masked Singer.” He was left perplexed by the goalkeeper’s lack of concentration, stating, “I thought when I saw the replay it could have been the Masked Singer in goal.” Ferdinand acknowledged that Alvarez’s shot was speculative, but emphasized that the keeper should have saved it. He expressed his hope that Grabara would recover from this setback.
Darren Fletcher, a commentator for TNT Sports, couldn’t find any excuses for Grabara’s mistake. Despite the goalkeeper wearing a mask due to a previous facial fracture, Fletcher humorously suggested that the mask may have slipped over his eyes. However, he ultimately concluded that there was no defense for Grabara’s error, stating, “Any goalkeeper has to save that, it’s straight at him.”
Alvarez’s goal came after a well-taken opener from Manuel Akanji within the first five minutes of the match. This early lead put Manchester City on track for a comfortable victory and a place in the quarter-finals.
Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain had already secured their spots in the last eight with wins over Lazio and Real Sociedad, respectively, on Tuesday.
