Cole Palmer brushes off the ‘fools’ and ‘trolls’ on social media after breaking his goal drought in Chelsea’s victory against Premier League champions Liverpool.

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has taken a stand against the “idiots” and “trolls” on social media after breaking his goal drought in a crucial victory over reigning champions Liverpool.

Palmer netted his first goal since January with a late penalty, contributing to Chelsea’s impressive 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

Reflecting on his performance post-match, Palmer stated, “I just felt normal. Obviously, it happens. I went three months without scoring, but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team.”

He continued, “Social media nowadays is full of idiots, the trolls and whatever. I don’t pay any attention to that. I’ve scored today and I’m happy, but it’s only one and I’ve got to keep improving and try and reach new levels.”

The match saw Enzo Fernandez put Chelsea ahead early, followed by an own goal from Jarell Quansah that doubled their lead after half-time. Although Virgil van Dijk pulled one back for Liverpool with just five minutes remaining, Palmer’s stoppage-time penalty ensured the victory for the hosts.

This goal marked Palmer’s first since he scored in a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth earlier in the year.

When asked about his recent struggles in front of goal, Palmer admitted, “Getting chances and not scoring, it feels like you’re letting your team down. I feel like I am mentally strong anyway. I feel pride in helping the team and if I’m not doing that, I’m not happy.”

He added, “Today I felt confident, I was trying things, first-time passes, playing forward. When you have got him (Moises Caicedo) in front of you, it’s a dream. From the start of the season, he has been our best player, he wins the ball back all the time, he’s humble, nice to everyone and everyone loves him.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has declared that it has already been a “big summer” for his side, following the news that superstars Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have signed new contracts.

After months of speculation, both players have committed to new two-year deals, keeping them at Anfield until 2027. Following the defeat at Stamford Bridge, Slot was asked about the significance of this summer for Liverpool.

“It’s already a big summer because we extended Virgil (van Dijk) and Mo (Salah) and for large parts of the season, I don’t think everyone expected that. For us to keep them is a big thing,” he said.

Slot expressed satisfaction with his current squad but acknowledged the potential for new signings, stating, “We will see what the summer brings, but sometimes it can be good to bring fresh energy. It has already been a good summer and we won the league. Only if we see someone on the market who can improve us.”
