Chelsea have finalized the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, a move that the Danish young talent describes as a ‘dream come true’.
Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal. The Danish shot-stopper has put pen to paper on a seven-year deal with the Blues, although the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed. However, reports suggest that the figure stands at an impressive £20.7 million.
Jorgensen, who featured in 38 matches for Villarreal last season, has also represented Denmark’s under-21 side on six occasions. Speaking to the club’s official website, the 22-year-old expressed his delight at joining one of the world’s biggest clubs. He said, “This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and start playing with all my new teammates.”
The young goalkeeper will now join Chelsea’s goalkeeping ranks, which already include Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. Jorgensen will be competing with the duo for the coveted no. 1 jersey at Stamford Bridge. This signing marks the sixth senior addition under the reign of manager Enzo Maresca, following the arrivals of Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Marc Guiu.
In addition to Jorgensen, American left-back Caleb Wiley has also joined the Blues this summer. However, it is expected that Wiley will be immediately loaned out to affiliate club Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
Meanwhile, Jorgensen is set to meet up with his new teammates during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States. During their time Stateside, the Blues will face tough opponents such as Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid. The team will be looking to bounce back from their recent 4-1 defeat against Celtic.
Chelsea boss Maresca will be hoping that the signing of Jorgensen and the upcoming matches will help put an end to the ongoing Enzo Fernandez saga, providing clarity and closure for the club.
