Carlo Ancelotti draws similarities between Jude Bellingham and Zinedine Zidane following Real Madrid’s victory against Girona.
Jude Bellingham, the central midfielder for Real Madrid and England, had a reason to celebrate during the LaLiga EA Sports match against Girona FC. Bellingham scored his team’s first goal, helping Madrid secure a statement 4-0 victory over their title-chasing opponents. The match took place at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for Bellingham, comparing him to the legendary French player Zinedine Zidane. Ancelotti likened Bellingham’s playing style to that of Zidane, highlighting his extraordinary quality on the ball. Bellingham, who wears Zidane’s iconic No. 5 shirt, has already surpassed the Frenchman’s goal-scoring record in a single league campaign.
In his debut season, Bellingham has scored an impressive 20 goals in 29 games across all competitions. Ancelotti expressed his delight with the impact Bellingham has made since joining the club in the summer.
Despite his outstanding performance, Bellingham suffered a sprained ankle during the match. Ancelotti hopes that the midfielder will recover in time for Madrid’s UEFA Champions League last 16 away leg against RB Leipzig.
Ancelotti also acknowledged the contributions of other players, such as Brahim Diaz and Joselu, who have stepped up in Bellingham’s absence. Madrid faced a challenge with four centre-backs out due to injuries.
Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were also on target for Madrid in the match against Girona, boosting their chances of reclaiming the league title from Barcelona. Ancelotti described the victory as a “big statement” considering the level of opposition. However, he remains cautious about the challenges that the return of the Champions League will bring to their title bid.
Looking ahead to the Champions League fixture, Ancelotti emphasized the importance of maintaining commitment and the right attitude. He acknowledged that while Madrid has performed well so far, the additional fatigue from European football will require continued effort from the team.
