Cagliari and Juventus ended in a 2-2 draw, with an own goal from Alberto Dossena and a goal from Dusan Vlahovic helping Max Allegri’s team secure a point in Serie A.
Manuel Locatelli of Juventus made gestures during the Serie A TIM match between Cagliari and Juventus – Serie A TIM at Sardegna Arena on April 19, 2024 in Cagliari, Italy.
In a disappointing performance, Juventus failed to secure an away win for the sixth consecutive game as they managed to salvage a 2-2 draw against Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari.
Right from the start, the hosts dominated the game and missed several opportunities before finally taking the lead from a penalty. Gianluca Gaetano converted the penalty after Bremer was penalized for a handball.
Just six minutes later, Yerry Mina doubled Cagliari’s lead with another penalty, this time awarded for a foul by Wojciech Szczesny on Zito Luvumbo.
Dusan Vlahovic gave Juventus a lifeline with a brilliant free-kick that curled around the wall and found the back of the net.
Despite gaining momentum, Juventus struggled to create meaningful chances until Kenan Yildiz’s dangerous cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Alberto Dossena.
The draw raises the question of whether Cagliari is moving closer to securing their safety in the league. With just one loss in their last nine games and three wins, Cagliari has moved five points clear of the relegation zone and currently sits in 14th place. With only five matches remaining, there is growing confidence that they will avoid relegation, which would be a remarkable achievement considering they were promoted last summer.
The player of the match was Zito Luvumbo from Cagliari. Although his finishing could have been better, Luvumbo’s tireless running caused problems for Juventus, especially in the first half. His burst in behind led to the second penalty being awarded to Cagliari after he was brought down by the goalkeeper.
In terms of player ratings, Cagliari’s Scuffet, Mina, Dossena, Hatzidiakos, Nandez, Makoumbou, Sulemana, Augello, Zito, Shomurodov, and Gaetano all received positive ratings. For Juventus, Szczesny, Gatti, Bremer, Danilo, Weah, Alcaraz, Locatelli, Rabiot, Cambiaso, Chiesa, and Vlahovic were rated.
Key moments in the game included Gaetano’s penalty goal in the 30th minute, Mina’s penalty goal in the 36th minute, Vlahovic’s free-kick goal in the 61st minute, and Dossena’s own goal in the 87th minute.
Overall, it was a disappointing performance from Juventus, while Cagliari continues to impress and move closer to securing their place in Serie A for next season.
