Brentford 1-3 Arsenal: Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli help Mikel Arteta’s team secure second place in the Premier League.

In a commanding display at the Gtech Community Stadium, Arsenal secured a comfortable victory over Brentford, thanks to second-half strikes from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli. This win propelled the Gunners up to second place in the Premier League table, just six points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal started the match with intent, dominating possession and pinning Brentford back in their own half. However, the home side struck first on the counter-attack, with Bryan Mbeumo catching the Gunners off guard. It was Gabriel Jesus, though, who restored parity with a poacher’s effort, showcasing his knack for being in the right place at the right time.

The turning point came shortly after the break, with Ethan Nwaneri making his first Premier League start. The young midfielder played a pivotal role in the two goals that arrived within a mere four minutes. First, his corner kick caused chaos in the Brentford box, leading to Mikel Merino capitalising on Mark Flekken’s failure to clear the danger.

Moments later, Nwaneri’s cross was only partially cleared, allowing Martinelli to unleash a stunning volley that left the Brentford defence reeling.

With this victory, Arsenal leapfrogged Nottingham Forest into second place, solidifying their position as serious title contenders. Meanwhile, Brentford remains in 12th place, comfortably nine points clear of the relegation zone, but will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
